Interview– Claude Hall
Claude Hall Bio
Originally from NY, Claude Hall lived in Paris for 17 years where she developed her love for jazz and began her formal vocal training.
Instinctively drawn to the jazz genre, she honed her craft by studying the greats such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and Eartha Kitt.
Claude has since held sold-out performances in some of Los Angeles’ most iconic venues… Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Grill Jazz, Feinstein’s at Vitello’s, and the Baked Potato. In New York, she’s headlined at the Metropolitan Room, and in Saint Barths, she’s kicked off festival season headlining at their 2019 Jazz Festival.
Her musical stylings have paved the way to winning the 2016 Palm Springs Sings competition as well as being voted one of the top 100 unsigned artists by Music Connection Magazine in 2018.
Claude’s performances evoke the cabaret divas of days gone by. She’s developed a phrasing that is jazz sprinkled with the soul of the popular music that has also accompanied her journey, creating renewed interpretations of the standards.
In her EP, Claude Hall debuts as a songwriter. Reminiscent of Fats Waller, her self-penned title track, August Afternoon, reveals her capacity to create intimate moments of connection through the vivid imagery her lyrics evoke.
And with, Punch Drunk (a single from her upcoming album), Claude begins to spread her stylistic wings with a musical composition that is both bouncy and smooth offering a tapestry within which she weaves her rich and sultry vocals.
Claude also hosts a monthly broadcast, The In Side Out… a mix of music and artist interviews where she uncovers the person behind the persona.
Reviews:
“Claude’s style is what music is all about.
It’s fluid and full of emotion. It lends itself to romance
and her interpretations seduce the audience.” - Jeff West
“When Hall sings she displays the elegance of Lena Horne,
the crisp enunciation of Eartha Kitt, and a breathy,
sensual quality all her own that adds power
and oomph to her performance.”
- Elliot Zwiebach for Cabaret Scenes
“Hall presents her live music like an actress reciting a
jazz monologue on Broadway. She often enhances her
contralto range with a tantalizing brand of jazz phrasing.”
